I bought a 16" CHF FN barreled upper from them several years ago for my first build along with one of their premium MPI/HPT bolt carrier groups. It seems to be properly gassed and is a very smooth/soft shooting gun. Staking on the gas key wasn't as deep as my Colt or BCM but seems to be adequate. Would I trust my life with it as a duty weapon? Not sure...possibly with a BCG from a more reputable company, but it's better than nothing I suppose. I have never had a bad experience with them and have ordered ammo/parts from them several times over the years, but others have had issues for sure and from what I've heard they don't have the greatest customer service. If I had to do it again I probably would have just saved up another couple hundred bucks and bought something from a more reputable company (i.e. Colt, DD, BCM, etc.)

Well I went ahead and ordered the 18inch rifle length Nitride 1in7 twist with a Wylde chamber with BCG and charging handle. It will be just a range toy, and give more experience with the AR platform with my limited budget.
Thanks to everyone for you opinions and your expertise.

We have a brand new one in class right now that will not function out of the box. We will be looking at it tomorrow and shooting it on Friday to see what's wrong.

With that said their quality is hit or miss.

I have several. As far as function, they function like a Stoner rifle. Because thats what they are. The ff handguards coming loose are the only thing ive ever had a problem with. Not on the premium gun but the cheaper nitrided ones. I'll send them back one day but i have other rifles to shoot. I believe battlfield vegas gave them high marks, thats certainly something.

Two complete uppers, one lower, one complete pistol. All gtg. One upper had a machining flaw which didn't impact function but was chewing the CH handle pretty good. They immediately gave me the option of "letting it ride" and monitor it (didn't yet know the cause of the problem), receive a new CH, return the upper. I let it ride for weeks and finally discovered the problem. Called PSA, they emailed a return and off it went. Received a new upper with my original barrel, etc along with a new CH. Turn around was a little slow at 6 weeks but it all worked out ok imo. I imagine with their sales volume there will be issues from time to time.

I am a firm believer in you get what you pay for, but at the same time... I can build a BCM AR for $700-$800.... or I can go to a local shop and pay $1000 for a Bushmaster or $1100 for a Smith & Wesson, Does that mean they are better guns then a BCM?

The AR market is cloak and shadows. There are WAY MORE rollmarks out there, then there are MFG's who are making the parts.

I have a PTAC upper on the way to slap on a PSA lower I got for $80 with the LPK. So it will be a <$500 AR, so we will see how it is when it gets here. I would assume it will be the same quality as a mediocre Bushmaster, except it cost me half the price with more features.

I have a few BCM built guns, a BCM HSP Jack Carbine, and a LWRC REPR if I need a "go to" gun, but for $480 with a MI freefloat fore-end... I can still keep it as a beater. If anything I can use it to eat up cheap steel cased ammo I find any deals on.

Just out of curiousity, which type of upper is on this gun (CHF Premium, PTAC, Phosphate, etc)?

They remind me a lot of Olympic Arms. OA had some ARs which ran fantastic, and the guys who carried them on duty loved them. However, that didn't change that in the larger picture, OA had QC issues and ran a company geared to the lowest level possible to max profit. OA later became the butt of many jokes and negative comments from people who had no actual idea what they were talking about.

We disassembled today and as I suspected the barrel was not dimpled, and the gas block was not installed correctly. Also, no Loctite on the set screws. Tomorrow we will be test firing and diagnosing it.
