FWIW, my Wiley Clapp CCO, purchased in 2016, had an MSRP of $1448.33 at the time. Got it for $1016.07, new. So it is possible to find a WC close to $1k. Granted, it isn't SS and isn't a full size frame, but the savings was substantial. You just need to be patient an look for a good deal.

    Ill-advised to buy a 1911 under $1000.

Under 1k, Ruger. Nothing wrong with SA guns, it's the company I take issue with. Sorry, I tend to hold a grudge. I'll never own a SA product.
True story. I went to the LGS to actually take possession of my new TRP the day the news broke about their BS they pulled and told the dealer to send it back, took a 20% loss and told SA to kiss my ass. Sorry, that's just me. I can't support them.

It was something political within Illinois a year or two ago. Personally I felt it was far overblown by the interwebz but some people had a real issue with it because it fell in the realm of gun control.

My first 2 Springfields were Loaded models, a stainless and a parked. Both served as duty/off-duty/EDC guns and I was very happy with them. Then I found a good deal on a stainless TRP.....True, not under your price limit, but it has been said the TRP stands for "The Right Pistol". I think if you add the extra to get one, you'll be just as happy as I am with mine. And no, the wife doesn't know the stainless Loaded and TRP are different pistols....
