I have a Colt Commander in .45 and its awesome. It shoots one-hole groups if I do my part. I've never felt outclassed at the range by guys with more expensive guns. I got it at my LSG for a little under $1k with ambi safety and a couple other options. Not a TRP but it meets the OP's requirements.

If you're a Colt fan, the Wiley Clapp Government, if Springfield is your cup of tea then find you a TRP, new used in good condition it won't matter... even if it has bugs SA will fix it for you and fast.

Pick up a NM prefix sn Springfield Mil Spec for considerably less than 1K, make it the way you want it.
Or the Series 70 Colt 45 used in ex condition the market is rife with them for a tad less than the stated
    1K .

Im in the same boat too. Im a fanboy in mind but 1911 by heart. Im leaning towards a rail gun or combat unit though.
