    Thanks, rjacobs.

I’ll sit on this until we get LE out. I appreciate all responses. The sense I’m getting is that what we can do may be completely different from what we should do with this.

To be honest, though, the world needs another Gecko45. He's like...what the world deserves when its horrible.

OP- Some members here have experience in building church security teams. We’ve had several threads that discuss training, equipment, administration, working with law-enforcement, etc. In addition to those, you should also check out these resources.

Had to look this “gecko45” up. I laughed. Someone has saved a thread from 2001, which itself is funny.

In my defense, I made clear in the original post that I would not be carrying any weapons. I like cool stuff, don’t shoot a whole lot, and try not to act like I do. I do have a chest rig, though.

Seek somebody out with actual training and experience to lead the team.

Work with the local police, at the very least let them know you're forming a team and have some sort of coordinated response plan in place such as there are good guys with guns. You should also have someone at the entrance to rendezvous with the authorities when they get there. Find a good range and bring in a QUALITY firearms instructor. Aaron Cowan and John Lovell have excellent civilian active shooter and church security courses.

While they don't need to be the 75th Ranger Regiment, the team should have comms, a basic understanding of team tactics and good safe weapon handling skills so they're not flagging an entire congregation or worse.

Like another poster said, the congregation should know nothing more than that a security team exists. Who is on it and their procedures should be kept discrete. As far as equipment goes, any quality handgun is going to be more than sufficient. There's no time to run to a gun room/locker to retrieve a carbine and silencers in this instance are highly unnecessary. Don't overthink it.
    Worry less, Train more.
