While I have not done extensive research, I would say that rarely does anyone involved in an actual life/death dynamic gun fight afterward say, "Boy, I'm sure glad I didn't have more capacity in my handgun and extra magazines with me. Phew!"

I have very little wheel gun experience, obviously. I loaded hot 357 loads with 38 Special, every other one in the cylinder, and shot a course of fire yesterday. Shooting under stress, the difference between the rounds was not noticeable enough for me to rely on a "hot round" being my empty notification. YMMV.

OP, instead of arguing ad naseum with those who tell you this is a dumb/bad/less than optimal idea, why don't you try it and report back?

I carry revolvers very often (as a primary). Maybe I'll learn something new.
I haven't been regularly carrying a revolver so the idea hasn't been on my to-do list.

    Thanks for relaying your experience.

I'll try it myself next time I'm shooting a revolver.

    Let's say you carry a S&W .500 Magnum concealed.

You could load the first four chambers with Magtech reduced load ammo:

    https://www.sportsmansguide.com/prod...unds?a=1585812

This is a 325 grain JHP generating "only" 1370 foot pounds energy.

The fifth chamber you load with these:

    https://www.cheaperthandirt.com/prod...ategory=434483

440 grains generating close to 2600 foot pounds.

You could tell that was your last shot.
