In a 14.5” barrel, it comes close to halfway between Gold Dot 64gr and M855 in velocity.

How does it group compared to the Gold Dot 64 and M855 with your sights set for each?

Thanks for the heads-up. All but one of my carbines are 16.1" barrels and I have an 11.5" SBR. This info. on the 14.5" is good to have because there's one of those in the future.

I just got some Hornady "Black" 62 grain FMJ in today. I only ordered 2 boxes for now to try them out. I'll see how it functions compared to the M855 and Gold Dot 62(s) if I find some somewhere. I'll set sights for M855 at 25 and then 100 yards and see how things work. I know I always have to re-sight when moving from XM193 to the M855 rounds.

I can find out for you this weekend. I’m Z’d for Fusion MSR; I don’t really pay much attention to the zero shift when I shoot M855.

Edit: If you are talking about actual group size, Fusion groups tighter than M855 in my rifles, just based on zeroing for each.

IMI 69gr. Old brick home - not worried about overpenetration

    .
I failed to test 64GD, but here’s a comparison of 855, Fusion MSR, and others.
    Rifle: 14.5” Noveske
    Optic: P4Xi
    Target: 2” dots at 60yds
    Conditions: crazy hot and humid

    Ammo, 10rnds ea
PR: mixed ammo, ignore; just getting the first group out of the way.
P1: Precision One 62gr lead core 5.56 blems
    MSR: Fusion MSR 62gr
    855: M855, of course
    A1: M855A1
I waited ~10 minutes between each group.

In case you can’t see the pic, here’s some rough estimations:

855 grouped about an inch to the right of Fusion MSR (zero’d load).

855A1 was about an inch right and half an inch low.

Precision One was about an inch low and half an inch right.

I’m not Molon or Stickman, and this was shot unsupported, sorry.

    62 grain TBBC, 10 shots @ 100 yards.20180921_190823 (1).jpg I usually get 2-2.5" groups with this ammo....not great but more than adequate.

64 grain Gold Dots have shot a bit more accurately than this for me in the past. I think both are great choices for the purposes of this thread.

To the OP's question- saying you want a round for use in an AR pistol implies it will be a short barrel. For that I suggest 75 gr Gold Dots. You'll never get maximum velocity (therefore fragmentation) out of a sub 14" barrel so the alternative is to go with heavy for caliber expanding bullets that behave more like pistol rounds (delivering reliable expansion and weight retention). Wikiarms has always been a reliable source for where to find them the cheapest.

    I chrono’d a 10.5” barrel pistol with 64 gr GD.
    Was right at 2300 FPS.
This bullet/ammo is supposed to expand at 1800 FPS as designed.
I see no problem here, particularly for “home defense”.
