Slings---A Question for Combat Vets.

Two point all the way. If you don't run a two point I typically won't take you seriously (subguns/AWs being an exception). Either BFG or VCAS. When doing an offset patrol onto a target my weapon is carried around my neck and with my right arm through so that when I sling my weapon to check GPS, write down coordinates or whatever else i may need to do, its relatively retained and won't smash against anything. As soon as we hit ORP to conduct a target assault, my weapon goes around my neck only, so i can more freely switch shoulders and do things like ladder work and other stuff. Fast roping, sledging, breaching, etc, weapon needs to be slung around the neck with my arm through and cinched tight. Typically more than enough retention for that kind of work. I did a lot of walking and standing, not much anything else. I ran a padded one overseas, made it more tolerable when standing in the same place with the rifle slung for long periods of time. Now I always buy the standard BFG sling for my personal rifles.

I used a GG&G clamp on single point adaptor and a single point bungee sling. The unit I was in did not promote the idea of letting your sling support your weapon so long as you had control of your arms. I dragged and lifted a few things with that sling, and just threw the rifle off to my non firing side. One of 10,000 pouches on my IOTV usually caught it and kept it out of the way.
