    As others have already pointed out, your check gets taken out of your packet immediately and deposited by one set of government cogs quite quickly - then the forms get sent to another office and they process the transfer whenever they get around to it.

    [QUOTE=adh;240278.....After that on to a can....probably AAC M41k[/QUOTE]

    I thought you had to know exactly what you were buying for the paperwork. Can you fill out the paperwork for a suppressor and get what ever you want after the approval?

    You can't submit any paperwork unless you have a serial number to include in it. What adh is saying is that once he gets his Form 1 (Permission to build a firearm) approved, he will start the process to purchase a suppressor. The Form 1 is not used in the purchase of a suppressor, that would require a Form 4.

    FWIW, when I called the NFA Branch about a month ago they said that the actual investigation starts around 6 or 7-weeks (give or take) after your check clears.

    Thats what I thought. It was the word "probably" an M4-1K that confused me in the origional post.

    Thanks

    M4-1000 Form 4 transfer to an LLC

    Sent via Priority Mail on 9/11/08

    Approved on 10/27/08

    Received in the mail at my FFL/SOT on 11/5/08 or so.

    No idea on the interim steps as it went from "not in the system" to "approved" between my checking on it.

    adh,

    My form 1 went pending and assigned to an examiner on 11/24 as well (sent out on 10/08).

    If i hear anything I'll make sure to post it in this thread as I'm assuming both of ours will be approved (hopefully) at the same time

    Wonder where mine is in the process? Was mailed out on 27 OCT and the check was cashed a few days later.

    I gotta say that the fella that answered the phone was very polite, but it seemed like he must field calls like mine all day.
