    Closing vs Moving Threads

Read a couple of threads this morning that abruptly ended as "Closed". It appeared evident to me the reason for closing was due to the thread having been started in the wrong sub-topic area. If these threads had been allowed to run their natural course, potential information of value could be gleaned from them.

Why not simply move the thread to what you consider a more appropriate location as opposed to just shutting it down? Kind of defeats the purpose of a forum imo. If it then appears to become a problem from an individual member, deal with the member in lieu of depriving the community of a meaningful exchange of thoughts and ideas.

    Thanks

You want mom to pick up your dirty socks, too? Different thread topics are a standard across every forum on the planet, IMO the mods shouldn't have to play maid to the lazy masses, they do enough for nothing as is. If the subject is important enough to discuss than it is important enough to put in the correct place.

Many could say the same to yourself based on your initial, arguably asinine, comment/question and your response.

One might say: An attitude of expectation is just as bad as one of abrasion.

To Clarify: ToR Might have been rhetorical and sarcastic; but his point has a lot more validity than attitude.

Generally speaking when someone posts in the wrong area, it will be moved or it will get closed and there will be a link posted to the correct location.

It becomes a little tiresome when people keep doing it over and over. Especially when someone has been here a while.

Thank you. Both a reasonable and civil response. I agree, if not a newbie, not much of an excuse.

In the General Forum there was a thread " Question about 4473 and federal firearm law ", realize it was moved, where to and why the following message:

Let's close this thread down, boys. M4C turned over it's control to Zuckerburg.

It was moved to the trash as I recall because children started acting up.

That 4473 thread was actually deleted by me, because the OP asked me to do so. I thought I was just doing the guy a favor because he politely asked me to delete it.

Silly me, doing what a member politely asked me to do. I did not realize I had to conduct a poll and get a majority vote from the entire site membership.

Sheesh people. Sometimes there really is a simple answer.
