There was a time when families would crowd the lobby and wait up to 40 minutes to be seated in the local Pizza Hut (late 80s), they didnt deliver, as a matter of fact back then I dont think anyone delivered any food around here other than milk. Its hard to belive now that pizza hut was considered good enough to take a family out to wait for... The old location is a crumbling derelict now and the new "carry out " location..... well, the last couple times I tried it, I ended up with some form of gastric distress

Local places/chains are the best IMHO.

In the Youngstown, OH area (where I am originally from) my favorite is Wedgewood Pizza. When we go back to visit family for holidays or funerals I always freeze some and bring it back to TN. Have two in the freezer downstairs right now. Cornersburg or Bellaria are close runner-ups from that area.

Remember the Pizza Hut "Priazzo's" from 1985? Those were amazingly good but for some reason never caught on. It was kind of a cross between a Chicago deep dish and some influences from Italian pizza (where everything more more like a pie).

Of course that was also back when McDonalds fries tasted awesome, Burger King cheeseburgers really did taste like something that came off a grill and KFC usually had the best fried chicken in town. McDonalds also had a fried Hot Cherry pie that was amazing (why couldn't they keep that and shitcan the McNugget crap).

The scary part, when I was eating all of the above my father and uncle would talk about how good "real" McDonalds burgers used to taste back in the 60s and how nothing beat a good A&W drive up.

I've always found good pizza at Greek owned spots. Plus they always have anchovies.

As long as they keep having pineapple then I'm all good...lol

And I miss the old Pizza Hut BBQ pizza. My local one still had it a few years ago, one of the few that kept it. It got to greasy so I haven't stopped in to see if they still have it or not. Wish I could eat it like I use too...

My memory may be suspect, but 30 or 40 years ago I think Pizza Hut was better than they are today (if only marginally).

Here is a tip on reheating pizza since a microwave makes a soggy mess. Put a cast iron skillet on the stove and get it good and hot. Put your pizza slice in it and heat until the crust gets crispy. Then put a half teaspoon of water in the skillet and cover. This will steam the cheese until it melts.

Its vaguely reminiscent but its probably some special "80s flavor" additive theyve engineered to hide the food crimes theyre commiting these days. In my opinion the downfall of the Hut was when the salad bar began transforming into a pizza buffet. At least they didnt go full CiCis.

A big greasy NY slice of pepperoni is as good as it gets for me, but I still jones for some old school Pizza Hut

Anchovies taste pretty good from what I recall but its been ages since Ive had any, Im not sure when I last noticed them on the menu. The earlier analogy to eating an eyebrow was also correct IMHO

It was AMAZINGLY better. The pan pizza, when they used to actually cook it all the way to a crispy crust was something you wanted to eat. In the last 20 years, I usually won't even eat it if it's free. When I moved here almost a year ago, I was hoping that a small town Iowa Pizza Hut might not taste as godawful as what was being offered in South Florida, and it was "a little better" but still a long way from what it was in the 70s and 80s, but most things are.

The move to make "fast food" healthy and low calorie has pretty much destroyed everything. Everything tastes like shit for the most part and honestly it isn't any better for you. Now if I want a cheeseburger and fries I need to fire up the grill and drop some fries in a pan because it's just not worth eating McCrap.

While we are on the subject, I can remember when McDonalds breakfasts were awesome. Even the pancakes tasted good and I generally don't give a crap about pancakes. But add some sausage, hash browns and about 5 maple syrups and I was squared away. I could even eat their scrambled eggs. Now I can't eat any of it unless I want to live in the bathroom for the next four hours. It's a shame, used to be really good comfort food.

In the summer, we used to walk 3.2 miles (just googled it) for McDonalds as kids. That's a long trek when you are 12 and spending your own money.
