I have the basic, nothing fancy SW1911 (2008 model). It has Novak style sights, with notches in both front and rear. I'd like to put Trijicon night sights on it. Are they easy to install or does a gunsmith have to install them?
Thanks, NYH1.

I don't have an answer for your question. But I do have a question for you. I'm considering a scandium 1911 from s&w and looking for any feedback from actual long term users.

Trijicon/Tritium insert sights install just like any other dovetail sights.
Best if you go slow, take a few swipes off base with triangle file, test for fit, repeat.
However, you can’t be beating on them or the Tritium vials can shatter.
Back in 2008 about 5 of us bought the basic full size stainless model (#108282). They were having a $150 rebate at the time.
I did have an issue with mine that S&W took care of really quick. Sent it back on a Thursday and I got it back the following Tuesday.
The issue was-
When I engaged the palm grip safety and pulled the trigger at the same time with the safety "ON", as soon as I turned the safety "OFF", the hammer would drop to half (more like quarter) cock.
I have no experience with their scandium models. However, I think they'd take care of you if you had any issue with one. Try going to 1911forums, a lot of info there.
Yeah Trijicon said their SA36 sights fit non-performance center models, so it looks like I'm all set. I have a Brownells sight pusher tool. I just have to get the adaptor for 1911's.
