    OP: for hot spots/blisters, learn where the hot spots ate gonna be, and apply moleskin to those spots ahead of time to prevent the blisters.

    Less impact than running. Not too bad if you're not over-loading (abusing joints and lower back muscles).

    Depending on the grade and elevation gained/lost, it's great exercise.
