    Bushy Mag Release Issues

I apologize if this has been covered....I could not find a search definition that defined the issue

These are not my rifles but I have to manage them.

I have had these rifles under my watch since about 2010. This rifle may have been in the back of the stack and never got used and thus the reason this problem just surfaced.

The are Bushmaster Lightweight 16" (XM15-E2S) well before the Remington purchase.

Recent academy....all rifles were being utilized and very weak magazine lock and would release after 1 or 2 shots.

I actually had two rifles go down (the other one released the buffer detent into the trigger guard) causing misfires. Easy fix.

Anyway, further examination comparing to the other rifle.....

mag release assembly is deeper on one rifle and short of flush on the issue rifle.

I measured the depth of the mag release assembly cut out in the receiver and the issued rifle was short .155" compared to the other rifle at .170"

You can see how thin of the catch is exposed to retain a mag.

    Question...
do they sell a mag catch that is oversized for issues like this?

I tried an old Colt SP1 mag catch I had at the office......same results. The two Bushy mag catches are dimensionally the same.

If there is no oversized catches....I may have to thin the meat on the flat where the bolt extends.

    any other advice is welcomed

Let the rock throwing begin (remember....I did not buy these guys.....the academy said "here"....teach patrol rifle to cadets.

    thanks in advance

mag catch on the left sits below flush. The one on the right sits high
