What magnification are you guys using for 1000 yards?

We have IPSC steel targets out to 550, but getting the hankering to make a run down to the 1000 yard range. Think I'm in for a new scope anyway b/c at some point I'm gonna get doing windage hold overs too at that distance and maybe a 3-9 BDC might be lacking? Any suggestions on what mag range I should be looking at? They have IPSC and 10" steel at 1000. I took a peek through a Vortex recently think it was a 6-24 wow did it look nice! Will be on a Creedmoor. Thanks!

I like 5-25X but if I’m shooting full size IPSC steel have no problem with 3-15X.

Ok thanks I really liked the vortex at 24 was amazing I've never seen a target look like that.

15x is about the lowest I like.
22x is plenty.

I used to use 25 but have 22 now so that's what gets used.

Small size, more detail, PID/intel, benefit from more magnification. B/C+ steel, 20"+ plates and gongs, lower consequences, you can get away with a lot less. You can do a lot of good shooting with 9 or 10x. If you go with a SFP your reticle will only be true at a given power, usually max. Sometimes, high teens and 20x+ magnification can be too much. Strange as it may sound less can be more, and easier to hit with.

My USO SN3 tops out at 17x on my 308, and I've hit steel out to 1084. As others have said, once you start getting 20+ mirage is more of an issue.

I keep it at 10-12X due to mirage. I'm perfectly fine with a fixed 10. But I'm running 3.5-15X. FOV sucks if If I dial up too much. And if you shoot a magnum and get blown off target, it's harder to spot for yourself.
