    Possible Mega Megalithic build

Has anyone did a build off of one of these? I saw one of the quad railed uppers and it looked solid. Is there anything to be cautious about?

    I was thinking:

    megalithic quad railed upper
    Mega lower
    Lmt 308 receiver extension
    Lmt action spring
    Lmt BCG
    Some form of Geissele trigger
A 16” rifle gas stainless barrel

Any flaws to this? This would be my first 308 build. The cost would be within $500 of a used MWS so would that be the better route? Any input or advise would be welcome.

Yes, Zev owns mega now. JSE has tons of the mega receivers though. As far as barrels go, Criterion makes a stainless 1/10 twist 16” rifle gas. That may be an option.

Seems like a hassle to me, having to use a proprietary tool to tighten the barrel nut. Especially if, like me, you tend to misplace these things you only use once in a blue moon!

Not to mention, you’re stuck with that hand guard if it gets damaged or otherwise. There goes an expensive upper!

How many times have you damaged an upper?

Personally? Never. I was referring to the hand guard, BTW...

But since you mentioned it, I have two words for you. SQUIB LOAD!

I have seen a rifle blow up a few lanes down from me and was actually hit by shrapnel. It is entirely possible and not as uncommon as you may think! Need more proof? Have a look.

A squib would probably destroy the entire upper.

But a monolithic upper is stiffer and i would think then a separate handguard upper receiver assembly. I'm a big believer and monolithic uppers. I have two Vltor VIS polylithic uppers and I like them.

I would think a squib load would probably damage both the handguard and the upper receiver.

I don’t have any issues being “stuck” to a hand guard. My MWS is in the same state, monolithic quadrail. I’ve never changed a hand guard after it was installed. I was looking at building it as close to a MWS as possible with the ability to use off the shelf barrels. If I do this it’ll have a lot of MWS parts. I’ve seen a couple MWS’ on GB in the $1800 range so I may just pick up another one of those and forego the build.

For a first 308 build, be warned they can be finicky to tune. More so than it’s younger brother. I would ask the barrel maker you choose what spring/buffer/extension length they recommend for THEIR barrel.

Mega machining and anodizing is superb. The megalithic is a work of art. Even the welds on the long wrench that comes with it are beautiful. I have the AR15 version for a precision rifle. Glad I went that route.
