Plastic handguards and especialy the stock barrel nut are not lightweight at all. My 7" DDM4 with Al barrel nut is 8.5oz, which is 2oz lighter than the stock barrel nut with heatshield plastic handguards.

Let me just clarify. I'm not looking to nitpick every tiny little component down to the gnat's ass just for the sake of light weight. I'm seeking the off-the-shelf accessories to enhance a basically stock weapon with all the necessary functions, yet with an emphasis on lighter weight and to not load up on the items that while functional add to the overall burden.
I'm sticking with a basically factory configured Colt 6720 with pencil barrel, to which I'm adding or subtracting things with function (yet light weight) always in mind.
I know there's a thread on TOS where people are putting their guns on scales and tweaking every little component. That's why I went back and edited the title to "lightweight KISS" carbine. I'm not trying to set a record for light weight at any cost but to give a good basic setup for someone who isn't going to change major components just to save a few ounces.
Sorry, I guess I didn't make that clear. I'm just trying to accessorize a stock weapon with lightweight accoutrements, not change the whole thing from muzzle to butt.
I hope you dont mind me adding mine as I am having difficulty finding the right light for it.
I did not want to go FF to keep my cost down....but I cannot find a forward mount for a light to get it forward of the handguard.
I like the concept of TLR1 HL for the brightness but I have big hands and long arms.....I like my handguard free of accessories and would like to move my hand fwd to operate the light.
any ideas for a forward light mount and the Magpul SL handguard.... or am I looking at investing in a FF or LPGB?

Only negative would be the heat off the FSB when mag dumping.

thanks guys....I should have added...I tried one of those a couple of years back. I found one used on the forum and did not care of the mount. I sold it.
I wished Magpul made a M-lok mount that pushed the light forward of the handguard.
I have a FSB mount but I would have to cut the handguard to make the TLR attach. I have that set up on my duty 12.5 BCM.... just wanted to try something different.

You can also add a ring or picatinny rail depending on what light you want to use. Great setup.

I completely forgot about IWC...
I will look into it.
thanks
I never went on any quest, call me crazy but I like a carbine ready out of the box, well almost so when I wanted a KISS carbine the 6720 was a no-brainer.
Switched out the OEM furniture for some BCM that I had taken off a lower then picked up one of their PKMR handguard sets, threw on a DD BUIS, VCAS, and a Frankenlight that I cobbled together from a SF G2 body, SF G3 aluminum bezel, TNVC Cree Q5 lamp, and a SF Z59 clicky tailcap.
I don't own a postal scale nor do I dabble in 420 so I have no idea what the exact weight is but she's light.
