Any problem doing the barrel near the receiver so long as the engraving is readily visualized through the MLOK slot? That should meet criteria, no? Spirit wnd letter.
M4 platform.

Not okay.
On an AR-15, the lower receiver is the firearm and that is what must be great. You can engrave it under the trigger guard, you can engrave it in the bottom of the magazine well on the lip.

I can’t remember reading anything that says otherwise.
It’s an interesting idea: engrave all your short uppers. Then your lower remains clean and you can still put short engraved uppers on pistols should you wish.
Since when is it ok to engrave an AR barrel for an SBR rather than the lower receiver?

Presumably you’re referring to the Trust information: name, city, state, etc. You most certainly can engrave the barrel.
S/N needs to be on the receiver.

Regardless, it’s legal. It’s right there in black & white.
If you swap it with a 16” or greater barrel, engraving isn’t necessary anyway, as it no longer meets the purview of the NFA. If it’s swapped with another NFA length barrel, then that barrel would also need to be engraved.
You’re an NFA lawyer, right?

It needs to be on the serialized component, i.e. the lower receiver for the AR/M4 platform.
