Are any of you Elcan SpecterDR 1-4 using a 50/200 yard zero?

    Hi all,

I just received my Elcan SpecterDr 1-4 and mounted it on my .223/5/56 AR with a 16" barrel. I know that they recommend sighting it in at 4x power and 100 meters. I've typically zeroed at 100 yards, but been thinking about the 50/200 yard zero as it seems to make a lot of sense to me. Is anyone with an Elcan effectively using a 50/200 yard zero and how does that impact the Elcan's BDC?

    Thanks
    Steve

I don't have one, but sounds like you would get some use from loading Strelok and a ballistic calculator to help come up with a plan.

Just a rough estimate but you'd be holding a bit low for all distances. a 50/200 is more useful if you are going off holdovers without a reticle that has them .

That looks like a fighting not precision reticle to me. Past 600 you are just trying to put lead downrange near the target. If I used it at a range with targets at known distances I would use the recommended 100 yd zero. If in the field with no way to range targets I would use the 50-200. I would rather be able to shoot inside of 250 without thinking and use Kentucky windage at distant targets at unknown ranges. I would rather spray and pray at distant targets than close targets. Depends on what you want to do with the rifle.

CB, with your 50/200 zero what are your holds in comparison to the BDC typically?

If I’m shooting m855 it’s pretty much dead on. That’s using a 16” DD barrel.

Good to know! I guess I will just have to play around once the winter weather breaks. Thanks!
