    McFarland Ring

Whatever happened to the McFarland gas ring? It used to be such a big thing and now I never hear about it anymore.

Kind of a solution looking for a problem. That and some quality control issues if I recall correctly.

I've had one for 2 or 3k rounds on a BCM bolt. Bought one because I thought it sounded like a good idea at the time, and it works fine. No different than the gas rings that were on their before. I tend to agree that it's pretty much a solution in search of a problem. Probably won't be buying more now that I no longer see it as a real advantage.

If they're the correct dimensions they're good to go. There were undersized ones about ten years ago that caused problems.

The McFarland is just a one piece, three spiral gas ring. It does the same job as using the standard three single gas rings. If it's "a solution searching for a problem", so are the standard gas rings.
