Get a letter back saying it is not a pistol, it is an AOW. It is confiscated as contraband and you are being referred to the US attorney for charges of making an AOW, possession of AOW, interstate xfer of a AOW, yada, yada, yada.

I think that is how the tin hat crowd will see it.
It's my understanding that what happens in that case is you can get it back if you're an SOT, but otherwise they'll keep it and that's the end of it.

Even if that's the case, it does put a minor additional barrier to entry for parts makers, and a more substantial one for individual tinkerers and hobbyists.

Yet if anyone actually does this, they are asking for it to get confiscated. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.

Well a smart person would register it first, then send it in.

That specific example? Sure. That one is common knowledge. But new stuff like unrifled barrels, was not.

This is a huge impediment to the non sot manufacturers. So huge impediment to the small guys. The hobbyist the individuals are all losing with this. The whole idea is to stifle innovation in the Firearms industry

It just reminded me of the deal that happened after the ATF said you could shoulder pistol braces (the first time) any longer. The head of Black Aces tactical got ahold of the ATF and asked if he could use the braces on the short AOW shotguns they manufacture, and the ATF said no. A short while after him asking, and then complaining about the fact they could not do it, they ATF said **** it, and said that no one can shoulder the braces anymore.

Gun owners and firearm manufacturers being their own worst enemy again.

I get where you’re coming from, but the worst enemy is the people who vote for and create agencies whose main purpose is to enforce and create unconstitutional laws.

Can you put a stock on a firearm. Is this a stock? Does it increase the rate of fire? What kind petty crap is this? We are fighting defense. We are our own worst enemy.

Yes I just talked myself into agreeing with you.

And to think, there was a time in this country when a man named John Thompson was able to make a prototype submachine gun in his garage.
It's hard to be a ACLU hating, philosophically Libertarian, socially liberal, fiscally conservative, scientifically grounded, agnostic, porn admiring gun owner who believes in self determination.

With this timing, I wonder if there has any correlation...

No worse than manufacturers producing .308, .223, 7.62x36 and 5.45x39 handguns and getting huge supplies of ammunition reclassified as "armor piercing pistol ammo" which is unavailable for civilian sales. Of course if we didn't have a "sporter clause" it wouldn't even be an issue, neither would most of the other stuff ATF makes determinations about.

But for some reason, few people even know what the "sporter clause" is let alone what needs to be done about it.
