Just always viewed them as cheap alternatives to better products. They can't and don't do anything that other companies don't do better.

My Mepro 4X showed up today. Merry Christmas to me.

My initial impression is that I like the battery powered adjustable brightness level versus (most) ACOGs' tritium and fiber optic. The painted finish does not look as nice as the anodized finish that ACOGs have. I'll have to do a side by side comparison to one of my 4X ACOGs, but it seem a bit larger and heavier. The clarity looks the same from what I remember, but I'll have to compare it to the 4X outside to see if one's better than the other. The eye relief is short like the ACOG 4X.

I was able to do an initial comparison of the Mepro 4X to my LED ACOG 4X. While the Mepro seems larger, it isn't overall based on the exterior dimensions. What makes the Mepro seem larger is that the tube has a larger diameter. I like the throw lever mount that came with the Mepro better than the ACOG's thumbscrew mount. The reticles are very similar, but the Mepro has a few more features. The Mepro is only available to be illuminated in red while the ACOG can be purchased with either green or red illumination. If you prefer red over green then there's no difference here, but I prefer green.

I'm curious to know what the warranty is. My Mepro RDS warranty was only one year but it only cost $350 so I wasn't too worried about it.

Same one year. Given that it's designed for combat, they should probably provide a lifetime warranty. Then again, I can see that they wouldn't want to keep such a liability on their books. Honda probably makes the most reliable cars, but their warranty period is the shortest. Therefore, I don't correlate the warranty period with quality. Still, longer would be better. Trijicon has a lifetime warranty, tritium excepted, so this point of comparison goes to Trijicon.

Yeah, I agree. A middle ground would be nice. Sort of like Aimpoint's 2 year pro/competition and 10 year personal warranty. I don't think a 4 or 5 year warranty would be unreasonable and would generate more sales. But bringing an optic like this to market at a much lower price is bound to sell well.
