    Im bringing this thread back to life since this wasnt mentioned and I couldnt find any more info on this topic after a search.

    I just removed my dust cover for the first time and it was quite easy and didnt add any scratches to my AR. Just tape the area behind the cover (from cover to beyond the forward assist, I used a couple layers of plain ole clear scotch tape) then remove the C clip and push the pin out towards the rear of the rifle. Youll have to slightly angle the pin a tad to get it past the forward assist but its nothing difficult. Im sure the "correct way" to remove it takes much longer and requires some added dissasembly to remove the pin towards the front of the rifle.

    Just make sure you put your C clip somewhere safe so you dont lose it. Ive got some crawling around on the carpet to do to locate mine.
