NODAK Part # NDS-15U is ambi and forward.

I like FAL's, but not sure if a side charger on an AR is that big of an ergonomic boost considering the fairly short receiver size. With an FAL you also get in to the standard knob versus folding handle (Commonwealth & para variants) due to bumping in to stuff &/or torso poking preference.

A side-charging AR is indeed an "appreciable" boost in speed when staying on / acquiring a target when charging the weapon. That's my opinion anyway.

I can see faster versus rear, but not versus tripping the bolt hold open.
On a similar note, I have the BCM/Vltor medium latch which is gets used loading/unloading, but not much otherwise although it does help speed up the rare malfunction clearance.

A conventional upper with a bolt hold open and release will be faster every time on a magazine change.

If you’re carrying the rifle around for serious use without a round in the chamber you’re a moron, and a side charging handle will not make you any less stupid or tactically unsound. If you carry with a full magazine and round in the chamber like you should, the rear charging handle works very well.

Side charging handle uppers are a solution in search of a problem, and if people would actually train with and shoot the damn rifle instead of obsessing over stupid shit like where a charging handle lives, we’d all be better off. The standard charging handle works, you only touch the damn thing occasionally, we’re better off with it out of the damn way the other 99% of the time we’re using the weapon.

Any upper that requires removal of anti-rotation features on a rail is the stupidest of Fudd shit and should be universally scorned by anyone with even a shred of self respect or appreciation of the AR/M4 as a working/fighting gun.

I will now put my flame suit on.

It appears you're a candidate for an enema.

If you are using your charging handle for anything besides administrative loading and unloading, then something has gone terribly wrong...

You should have seen my jaw drop when I saw those photos. Perhaps a call to the rail mfgr "Hey, if I remove your anti-rotation tabs, could it possibly rotate?"
