AR gas system

I’ve built a few AR’s and I’ve always used quality parts, nothing below PSA and up to Noveske. I’ve never had any issues whatsoever but I want to learn more about the different components and how they interact. I don’t want to ask if this will work with that but how do all of the components work together so I can decide how I want each specific rifle to function.

If you really wanna know how the parts of the gas system work together, set up one lower with an A5 RE and get an A5H1 & A5H2 buffers. Set up another lower with a carbine RE and get H & H2 buffers. Set up a couple of uppers, one with a 14.5" or 16" barrel and another with an 11.5 barrel. Put adjustable gas blocks on them, buy a pile of ammo and get to experimenting. Keep good notes.
