    Gillette Ad

What a wasted opportunity. Their progressive heavy-handed virtue signaling totally ruined what could have been a really interesting message.

OK, I'll let slide a PoundMeTwo reference, but the 'toxic masculinity' and the overt use of the Young Turks Twit is over the top.

Not that I think Unilever is any better, but P&G is on the avoid list now and I'll never buy another gillete.

Besides being also being a little bit racist.

I can't figure out if these progressives are so tone deaf that they don't even understand that they are making things worse, or that they don't care. Do they not understand that this is at best a 50:50 position, instead of taking a more broad approach and getting 80-90% of people?

They will hide behind the big message of actually acting like a mensch and say that anyone who complains about the ad is some caveman, misogynist creep.

The a-holes in their ad dept are probably all enjoying their Zima's at the bar tonight. Metaphorically back-slapping each other (no touching) about how they used their billion dollar corporation and someone else's money to virtue signal about how woke they are.
The Second Amendment ACKNOWLEDGES our right to own and bear arms that are in common use that can be used for lawful purposes. The arms can be restricted ONLY if subject to historical analogue from the founding era or is dangerous (unsafe) AND unusual.

    It's that simple.

Just can't bring myself to GAF.
It's hard to be a ACLU hating, philosophically Libertarian, socially liberal, fiscally conservative, scientifically grounded, agnostic, porn admiring gun owner who believes in self determination.

    Chuck, we miss ya man.

    Autodeligitimization.

Anyone else notice that all the men doing the "bad things" in the propaganda piece were White while all the men stepping in to stop it were Black?

Spot on. It was called Gleichschaltung.

If you read and watch their propaganda replace the word "Jude" with Conservative/White/Male,Hetero/WASP and here we are. The language is the same only the targeted demographic has changed but in our case Conservative Jews are on the naughty list with all the rest of us Deplorables.

Here, here. Gillette manufactures shaving implements, shaving emasculates men. Freck that noise. Men's facial hair triggers the lemmings.

ETA: Absolutely adore all the virtue signaling in this thread from guys triggered about people calling out the SJW bullshit with this propaganda. LOLIRL.

I know it goes against your victim complex. But I just watched the ad again and you are incorrect. People stepping in included white, black, and a couple if intermittent origin.
Tell my tale to those who ask. Tell it truly; the ill deeds along with the good, and let me be judged accordingly.

Plus four of the perpetrators were black...plus that scene where all of the black kids were watching their two friends fight and the older guy stepped in and made them shake hands.

If we’re going to say that it should be proportional to the population, minorities were over represented significantly in terms of the bad stereotype the ad was attacking and only slightly over represented in terms of the saviors.

Wanting to be discriminated against is very common in identity politics whether it is the “social justice” idiots, or my friends on the right with whom I at least partially agree on most issues.

My stepfather is this way. He isn’t racist in the sense that he believes he’s inherently superior to anyone else, deserves any special rights, or thinks that anyone should have fewer rights and opportunities because of their race. I know that the overwhelming majority of people currently labeled of being racist also don’t believe in those things and aren’t racist.

I do believe that shifting demographics, combined with an over representation which is likely just the pendulum after decades of underrepresentation, combined with a sense of loss and devaluation of your own beliefs in the American political system and in pop culture, leads people to believing that there is more agenda at play aimed specifically at them and their group than is really the issue. It’s easy to see who you think is “winning” as winning at your expense.

It doesn’t generally come from a hateful place though and the media and the left does do a disservice to the conversation by labeling it as racist which simply drives the narrative of winners and losers even harder. I can’t stand Bernie Sanders, but after Trump’s election, he was the only person on the left to correctly state that they didn’t lose because of sexism and racism, but because there is a massive chunk of America that has in fact been left behind and ignored by both political parties...and that they were to some degree justified in that feeling.

I don’t know if members like Moose Knuckle l(not singling you out, you’re just vocal and right above this post) know who I am at all, or if he despises me for my inability to get on team Trump. But I have this feeling that it would behoove all of us to remember that we’d most likely not only get along in person but would probably like each other...to include the executives at Gillette.

Is the ad patronizing most men as creatures who encourage bullying and sexual misconduct? Definitely...but to some degree it has been true. Kids need adversity, they need conflict, and we as adults need to recognize when conflict is ends and bullying begins. As to sexual conduct, there has definitely been an overcorrection, but a correction needed to happen.

I don’t think Gillette saw this as taking a political stance, but rather taking advantage of a news story to further entrench themselves as a cultural icon beyond the “we’ve added a 37th blade to make your old handle outdated” gibberish that was driving customers away in droves.

I wear a beard. Previously I shaved with a safety razor and currently trim with a safety razor. The economics of it are what persuaded me, not the politics. That and I was tired of the non-disposable part being disposable and not made to a quality standard. Now I have a razor that I’ll pass on to my children, that gives a great shave.

Everyone should quit buying Gillette, but they should do it because we want a return to a culture that values quality, craftsmanship, and longevity in our products over cheapness and disposability.

Holy shit that’s an essay of disjointed thoughts. TL/DR; we’re all victims of our own experiences and worldviews, most of us are pretty decent, and screw Gillette but not because of some silly ad.

To counter my made up outrage at this Gillette video.. I watched a highlight reel of Johnny Bravo pickup lines this morning sent to me by my 19 y.o. daughter who has a great sense of humor about such things..
