    Question AR10 upgrade buffer&spring - opinions?

    I have a diamondback AR10 .308 18" barrel mid length gas system
I've upgraded the buttstock with a rifle tube from my AR15 and added a MAGPUL MOE rifle buttstock
I'm new to the AR customizing/upgrading world .. with that said. I've learned I will obviously need a rifle buffer and spring!!
what is yalls thoughts of a tubbs spring (carbine and standard length), and a kaks heavy rifle buffer 9.4oz … ive read in the reviews this combo with a Adjustable gas block is amazing with no recoil.
what do you have on similar gun .. any suggestions, websites, etc.?
also would like to do a drop in trigger down road .. brands?

Does it run reliably? If it does I wouldn't mess with it. Especially since you are new to working on AR's.

Also given it is a large frame 308 AR, if it runs well and doesn't seem excessively overgassed, this is probably a out as optimized as you can get it. You can play with all sorts of buffers, springs, etc and you may end up just making it unreliable.

As for a trigger look at something like an MBT-2S or a SSA-E.

I like the Tubbs flat springs and use one in my .308. If you're using a rifle RE, then you need to use a rifle length buffer to prevent damage from BCG over-travel that will occur with a shorter buffer. I would try a standard weight rifle buffer first, then add tungsten weights if needed/desired. You can buy the weights online if you don't have any buffers to cannibalize.

I haven’t really shot but maybe 40 rounds thru it, it does seem to have a bit of a kick obviously being a .308 - but just from reading reviews I was seeing guys upgrading the spring and buffer and it helping so that’s just the route I was looking to try. I guess it’s just a test it for urself type of deal ..

From what I thought a heavier buffer would just help with recoil ..

You said, "rifle tube" which I assumed meant rifle length receiver extension (RE). Is that what you have? You must match RE length and buffer length. If you run a carbine buffer with a rifle RE you will have BCG over-travel and damage parts.

Yea I put a rifle buffer tube for the buttstock to fit .. I’m still learning all the wording and lango . So I’m looking for a rifle buffer and spring .. that’s why I was looking @ the kaks and they offer the standard weight and the heavy and just seen people saying with the heavy it seems to tone the gun down a bit more .. correct me if I’m wrong or talking non sense lol

Start with a standard weight rifle length buffer and stock rifle length spring. Tune from there. These parts are cheap and you will likely find that the rifle runs fine, and often times the rifle length buffers and springs may shoot a little "softer" than the carbine length systems anyways even without any fancy buffers.

Most 308 AR carriers are longer. If a rifle RE is used, a rifle buffer will be too long. An A5 or carbine buffer is needed along with the right spacer.

308 ARs with carbine stocks usually use an A5 type RE and a carbine length buffer.
