I already have Benelli's, my Remington 870's are older models already set up so not replacing them.

Truth is, if I wanted to keep a SHTF collection I'd probably just keep my AUG's, HK's, Benelli's, Glock's, and SIG German pistols.

The AK doesn't readily lend itself to being modernized. As a defensive weapon it holds its own quite nicely. It's reliability is unmatched and even with older eyes works well out to 100 yards. I imagine that it would be hard defining shots taken out to 300-400 yards as self-defense.

Unless you live in Los Angeles, and the police officers who kicked the shit out of Rodney King were just acquitted. But it is something that is somewhat zip code dependent. I think the important consideration is for targets inside 100 yards, I'd like a rifle that could comfortably perform at 400 yards.

Which is exactly why I have optics on some of my AK's.
