Essentially this discussion has evolved from arguments about why an AR is better than an AK to arguments about why a piston AR is better than a DI AR. If only the fine members here could find a way to push it over to "why 6.5CM is better than 7.62 NATO" we can hit all the buttons.

Essentially AR15's and AK's are being rapidly replaced by newly designed AR18 variants.

Remember that time Rangers tried out the SCAR and decided to trade in all their M4’s? Oh, wait.

AR18 variants are interesting, and I also once thought that they would replace the M4. I was espicially interested in the XM8, SCAR, and ACR. But, turns out they aren’t a real improvement. Throw a longer handguard on a M4 and its hard to beat.

Except for New Zealand dropping a Variation of the AUG (AR18'ish) for a refined variation of a S.R.I.P. AR-15. Or the the fact that Canada (a country that sees snow in August and regularly gets hit by Arctic Air) still issues and uses variations of the M-16 and M4.

None of those competing rifles were designed correctly, at least not around the concept that a rifle needs to be both durable and reliable.

The HK 433 seems to be a good rifle at least from the specs on paper. The older FN FNC was a great rifle- so much so I wish they'd would bring it back out with some updates.

What tests? It seems like combat is a pretty extrem environment and the AR seems to do “okay”.

Are we really going to have THAT discussion again? The last one wasn't fully expressed to the extremes?

They should just make a M4 chambered in 10mm and that would be the ultimate, killing "death blow" rifle. I don't know why they don't make them.

Now would be the time to sell them and maybe pick up some more AR's before the panic hits next year. Figure the lowest price factory AK's, the WASR 10's are going for around $700 while PSA AR's are about $400. So if you have some nice AK's- I'd flip them now and maybe get a few AR's for the same value. Noticed that people are getting out of foreign calibers anyway with these potential threats to import ammo.
