I think I want to supplement my 7.62x39 pistol with the 7.62x39 rifle, but I can’t understand why anyone would want a 5.45 x39 Galil. If you own an AK-74 with a stamped receiver, you’ll appreciate the light weight. The Galil ACE is better suited for heavier calibers due to it’s heavier weight.

I guess this all sounds stupid, but to me, it’s like putting a .22 cal conversion kit on a SCAR 17s.

We do not have a lot of choices with factory built 5.45x39 platforms. This is it.

I had multiple problems with my 5.45 AR and sold it. The VEPR weighs a ton. The Galil is the only factory built 5.45 available. It is also kewl that the Galil Ace has been adopted by other countries.

That’s true. It’s a shame Arsenal hasn’t imported more kits, but I think Russia is one of the few nations that uses 5.45x39.

I picked up my pair of 5.45x39 Aces yesterday. Hats off to Dissident Arms. These are limited to 545 of the pistol and 545 of the rifle with the last three digits of the serial number indicating the number of the rifle in the sequence. Dissident Arms shipped me a pair that has the same last three digits of the serial number on each. While I thought about asking them to do that, I didn't bother because I thought they wouldn't want to be bothered with it and/or they wouldn't necessarily be shipped guns that could be matched up.

There are a few interesting differences between these 5.45x39 versions and the 7.62x39 & 5.56x45 versions that I have. First, the 5.45x39 does not have the lightening cut on the sides of the receiver where the magazine inserts. It would be interesting to know if it's just done this way for the 5.45x39 or if it was an across the board design change. The bolt carriers are also different. It appears to me that the 5.45x39 bolt carrier is entirely machined while the others were forged and then machined. In the picture below, the 5.45x39 is on top and the 7.62x39 is below.

Another detail that I noticed is the front sights on the 5.45x39's are pinned on while my 7.62x39 & 5.56x45 front sights are roll pinned. I will be SBR'ing the 5.45x39 pistol since IWI isn't offering a factory 5.45x39 SBR.

Shot mine this weekend...amazingly smooth. My colt commando seemed violent next to my ace pistol in 545

I put 115rds through my 5.45x39 Ace pistol Saturday. The following ammunition was used:
    1) 2x20 Red Army Standard 59gr FMJ (Vempyl manufactured, same as Golden Tiger)
    2) 20 Wolf Military Classic 60gr FMJ
    3) 25 Wolf black box 60gr FMJ
    4) 30 Wolf green box 60gr FMJ

Function was 100% with the point of impact about three inches high at 50yds. The best part was that unlike my 5.56x45 Ace SBR, 7.62x39 Ace rifle and 7.62x39 Ace SBR, this 5.45x39 Ace pistol was not overgassed. It tossed spent cases between eight and twelve feet depending on the ammunition in the direction of about 1:30. I couldn't be more pleased. This pistol will be an SBR in about a month.

I also shot my 545 Pistol recently. Its a true joy. Such light recoil, soft and smooth. Feels very balanced as it cycles.
