    Options/Advice needed for a precision AR, ideally from 25-600 yrds (Noob shooter)

    Platform: .223 Wylde Barrel 18.5” (on a POF Renegade + SPR AR platform).

    Intended use: Target shooting and plinking from standing position (25 – 100yards) and bench shooting out to 600 yards. Unlikely I would shoot farther than that as I am A NEW shooter, but the range I will go to does have a 1000 yard!! No hunting or competition anything. Bright Daylight only.

    Price range: Under $1300 but ideally under $1K. Rifle was $1900.

    All that said, my “enthusiast” friend simple stated to go with a Vortex Viper PST Gen II 3-15x FFP MRAD. I looked at it, and was great except it seemed super heavy (for examle, compared to the Leapold VX5HD (about the same price). Not opposed to it, but wondering other options here!!!

    As I said above, I also want to shoot up close so would the 3x magnification hinder that? He suggested offset irons, an offset red dot or getting 2 optics each with a QD mount. But that seems $$$$. I also was looking at a 1x6 24 optics. BUT I am not sure if I can practically shoot to 600 yards with this, as I am new to it all.

    IN short: Need options/suggestions based on above uses. Much appreciated!

    I have a Leupold VX-R pro that is decent for the price. I have researched the Burris XT-R ii 2-10 which I’m actually upgrading to. Seems decent from what I have looked at over the counter. But no experience with it yet

    MOA, because I am a simpleton. And because I have tried just about every single optic in his price range and the SHV F1 has been best. The Burris had a bit clearer glass but it wasn’t like an ATACR or anything crazy. The illumination stopped working after like a day. Parallax is off on nearly all of the cheap ones. I used to buy Vortex PSTs but $60 shipping back to Idaho or wherever they are sucks balls to fix dented windage adjustment knobs and other issues that my F1 didn’t have.

    For known-distance target shooting in your price range or just a hair above, I would look for a gently used NF NXS. If FFP is a priority, the SHV F1 is great- I have one and it compares very well with my 4-16 ATACR. I was a little concerned with the durability of the Zero Set at first but it has held up fine. The adjustments on the Bushnell LRTS's which I have used were also accurate when shooting out to 1150 yards.

    Thanks for your feedback. I'm in the midst of deciding on a scope for my DMR build, so it's nice to get real world feedback from other shooters.
