    I don't agree with the premise that one poster made that it doesn't matter the threat, preps are preps. I believe it does matter because part of surviving isn't just having the stuff to survive, it is understanding the threat and their TTP so that you can counter whatever actions are initiated against you. I call it intel, but at its core it is knowledge. Someone said, "My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge." (Hosea 4:6) This is a true statement. I don't think any war or battle has been won absent of some measure of reliable intel and knowledge of the enemy. I think thinking otherwise is short-sighted and naive.
    At some level it does matter of course. I've taken the Forward Observer Intelligence Class, done a follow on Area Assessment, understand CARVER decision making etc.....BUT, the fact is the BASE PROBLEMS remain the same. No matter what happens I still have to eat. I still have to have clean water. I still need to defend my stuff.

    NOW, HOW I CHOOSE TO DO THAT, may depend on what I know about the threat and my success in doing so will depend maybe in part on the accuracy of my understanding of the situation but at it's base level, all problems are the same. I'm not going to be a General in the coming Civil War, my little concerns are my own. I'm not enlisting and "going to war or battle" other than in my own little neighborhood and I understand it well enough. It's not that hard or complex,

    Nobody worldwide has the logistic ressources to get boots on US ground. The real threat will come from the inside.

    China scares the shit out of me. Russia is a lost country which is the scary part to me about them.

    Yes, but I doubt the US has the will to fight after the first couple of weeks. We may be able to put boots and tanks on the ground, but the US public and US politicians won't let it go much longer than that before we move to playing internal politics with the conflict, and then buckle and start trying to withdraw. We have a fearsome military with awesome technical and logistical capability, but we as a country are not the warriors we once were.

    Im curious what makes you think they are more dangerous than the 90's or early 2000's? Or how they can directly threaten CONUS or why would they even have a reason to with the amount of deterrence. The more realistic scenarios are take over of the Baltic States or pushing further into Ukraine.

    Any time there is less control the danger is intensified. The years after the fall of the USSR Russia was a bigger threat then at any time in it's existence. When there is centralized control the danger is less likely to ever happen but if it was to happen it would be much worse. Now with Russia having a very large power struggle (The legit GOV and the Criminal underworld) this could cause them to lash out to divert their opposites resources for their own advantage. Like the Criminals could cause an issue in the US and the US would respond against the Russian GOV and not them. This would divert Russian GOV resources away form the Criminals and give them an advantage.

    That was mostly because after the fall of Soviet union you literally had dozens of unguarded nuclear and chemical weapons facilities. Today, it would say its even more centralized under Putin than the days of the Soviet Union. There is no Politburo, no ruling council to answer to. Unlike the Soviet era the legit gov and the criminal underworld in Russia are one in the same. The "Russian mafia", much like in Japan with the Yakuza, operate with the blessing of the state. They are allowed to exist to keep other criminal organizations out and because Russian Gov't can exert SOME control that prevent them from going over the line or even sanctioning certain "jobs" for them. You can bet if the Russian mafia carried out some kind of politically oriented action and not just pure profit, the russian state would have been behind it.

    The threat to this country isn't going to be a specific foreign government. The threat is from within. The failure of the government to protect the borders and from socialists gaining control- is the real threat.
