Has anyone here ever attempted, tried, done... making 7.62x39mm SABOT rounds.
Removing the 123 grain 7.62 bullet, replacing it with a plastic/nylon SABOT cup and say, a 70 grain bullet?
Using perhaps the same powder charge of 23 grains?
Anyone?

Isn't that what 5.45x39 is essentially?
I did many, many years ago using those Win 30-cal plastic sabots they sold for their own 30/cal marketed ‘Accelerator’ loads. It worked in my SKS ... but I never did much more after I ran out of them.

Given that 10-shots are a group and 5-shots may be a favorable trend ... know that just one good 3-shot group can make you an instant internet superstar!
Not in X39 but I have done it in .300 BLK.... you know, now that the case has been converted from 5.56 to .300 BLK, let's see if it can be a 5.56 again ;-)
I only did a few but gonna do some more just for the heck of it if / when time allows. Sabots came from here:

Ned, long time to see amigo... hope you're well.
Retrorevolver77, the idea is that you have 7.62x39mm weapons, but you need smaller, higher velocity projectiles...
Lefty223, what kind of velocities were you getting?
Thanks in advance all...
No idea ... I was poor back then, no chrono. But, ...
I found some for you! $15 per hundred. See:

Yup, already got them... and others... and different 5.56mm bullet weights... 55, 62, and 70 grain... hopefully will be out this week to test out the loads I did...
OK, I give up... What's the point of this?
What's the accuracy like?
If you really want hyper velocity, then why not get a rifle in an appropriate caliber?
