    Looking for a 9mm 1911, which one?

So, I am a SA fanboy. I have a SA Lipsey edition pretty nice 1911 in 9mm.. It has a rail and I want one without a rail. I was looking at the Colt Govt Competition or maybe the SA RO.

If you were buying a new 1911 in 9mm, what would it be? Im not spending over $2K. Those options are under $1k.

    Thoughts?

I just got a used RO Elite and like it quite a bit. It needs some extractor tensioning but since its used, I can't say that it came like that from the factory. I've been very pleasently surprised in the gun for the price. Frame to slide fit is very good and so is the trigger (though he replaced the shoe, so again, not sure on the factory one). I have about 600 rounds through it so far, would be more if I got to shoot more often.

For less than $2k, I'd get a Dan Wesson.

DW makes a good 1911 for the bucks.

Both the Colt and SAs have a lot of MIM parts. The half dozen I’ve seen personally (range buds guns that needed some attention) were serviceable but needed tweaking ; triggers, extractors, lousy barrel fit.
    Still- they worked.
You’d be under 2K even with some massaging.

I was disappointed in the Specialist that I handled at the LGS before finding my ROE. Not that it wasn’t good, but I wasn’t convinced that it was worth the money over an RO Elite (I’ve been comparing the two on paper for years). Part of this is likely because I prefer FCS, which would be a significant addition in cost to an already duty treated gun, but CZ’s military discount is very good, so I wouldn’t have even had to pay full price for the Specialist.

If the cheaper models have everything you want in a gun, it definitely seems like they’re hard to beat, I’m just starting to get tired of paying more than I want for anything other than exactly the gun and features that I want. Obviously this means that YMMV, I’m just impressed by my ROE for the money.

I have a colt competition with about 3500 rounds through it. Except for adding some tension to the extractor which I did myself it’s been great. A lot of fun to shoot.

I've owned two SA 9mm 1911's. Both worked after a return to the mothership. CS is something SA does better than most. I don't own them anymore but I do have a Colt .38 Super Auto that has been amazing. I wouldn't hesitate to buy another SA and I like Colt.
Other good SAO 9mm's to consider would be the CZ 75 SAO, SIG P226,229 SAO.

In my opinion, the go to for around 1k would be the Sig Sauer match elite 9mm, nice gun. And for a little bit more and what I think would be the best choice would be the dan Wesson pm-9. When I bought my Springfield 9mm RO stainless, the sig match elite wasn’t readily available and the pm-9 was a special order only deal, I also looked at the Kimber 9mm target and the colt 9mm target which both felt gritty and loose while the 9mm RO felt tight and smooth, I bought the RO.. and for the first year was a total pos, back to Springfield twice and about a year of fettling by me it now is a very good reliable gun, way accurate, but i’ve Since been able to handle the match elite (very nice) and the Wesson pm-9 (omg is that a nice piece) so if it were me I check the internet (slicks gun’s) and buy the pm-9.

Despite being the biggest SA fanboy, I went with a Dan Wesson Valor. I handled one at a LGS and was very impressed, It however was $1,650. I was able to grab a Valor for $1,250, under $1,300 to my door. Still a fair chunk more than RO even though I would probably have to change the sights on the RO, which may even out a bit. And I love the Valor sights.

Fellas, wish me luck. I hoped I picked a winner.
