Here's my first line belt. I've changed a couple of things since this photo was taken though. I run an HSGI Sure-Grip Padded belt, Safariland ALS holster with a drop adapter, some ATS Tactical pouches, HSGI pouches and am getting ready to upgrade to a cobra buckle riggers belt soon. Love the HSGI padded belt though, most comfortable, thought out piece of gear I own at the moment.

At first I thought a battle belt was a good idea, but I've since discarded it. I ran an x-belt ps for a short while. The tendency of it to ride up was annoying. Bending over to pick mags up off the ground made it ride up, as well as normal use. Drop-leg holsters blow when moving, so using one to keep the belt from riding up was not an option. I also did not like how the belt restricted normal movement. It pressed in on my TFLs and made them fatigue quickly.
I've since gone back to the old stand-by: my trusty double thick leather gun belt built by the beltman. I normally run a pistol, two pistol mags and one rifle mag on my gun belt. Simple. Effective. If I need anything more, or if I don't care to put so much on my belt (which is normally the case) I run my PIG plate carrier.
I generally find it best to keep the weight off my hips so I keep my belt load-out to a minimum. Anything that can restrict the normal function of the muscles in the pelvic girdle should be avoided. So I stick to just my secondary weapon and one rifle magazine on my belt with the rest of the load-out on my PC.
Panzerr,
Sounds like you run into the same problems with belt systems as I do with it riding up and all...body shape as alot to do with that...I threaded all my gear on for a while till I found a solution...
In the next week or so I'll post a review of a belt system that I put together that you might be interested in. Very simple and low-profile. 2 M4 mags (I may go down to 1), 2 handgun mags, holster with handgun, small first aid pouch, and small roll-up dump pouch (which I never use)...

It seems that you had a less-than-ideal sample/design and discarded the entire concept out of hand because of it. Like someone buying a Taurus 1911 and deciding that all 1911s are unworkable because of it.
The US Grunt Gear belts eliminate many of the issues you describe, FWIW.
I had the ride-up issues you describe with competitor's belts and they vanished entirely with the USGG belt. Yes, it requires a velcro inner belt but for training it has proven invaluable for me.
I think, though, if you're willing to use a chest rig, plate carrier, etc. for your main rifle loadout, the "battle belt" may not offer much advantage. I've gone that route in the past and considered going back to it, but in the FL heat I find the belt to be a less fatiguing solution.
