I have a MKII Hi Power and a CZ75B. I love the Hi Power but the CZ is simply a more logical choice, and a fine pistol in its own right.

MKIII HP, SIG P226, H&K P7. All three of my personal examples have run flawlessly over the last three decades.

I tend to be pretty "run of the mill", so I prefer the Beretta 92FS's, in all their forms. I love mine.

My top choices would be CZ75, Sig P226, or Beretta 92.

It is hard to argue with the Browning Hi Power. It set the standard as a military handgun for most of the 20th Century.

Not as customizable as some other pistols but there are still plenty of options out there. You'd probably want to have better sights added depending on which vintage. You may also want to remove the magazine safety if that hasn't already been done. Probably the only other thing you could do is add an extended thumb safety.

There are a couple surplus vendors on gunbroker selling Israeli surplus guns. If you want something with a bit of history to it that's the way to go.

Another option for a Hi Power is the new production guns coming in from Turkey. These look nice but I don't know if the quality control is there. Time will tell as we get more feedback from users.

My other suggestion is a Ruger 1911 in 9mm. Ruger is making a surprisingly nice 1911 line. They have the 9mm version in a couple different sizes. Probably the only thing you'd need if you went this route is a handful of magazines from either Wilson Combat or Tripp Research.

Naturally, it may be used by evil men for evil purposes, but there are more good men than evil, and while the latter cannot be persuaded to the path of righteousness by propaganda, they can certainly be corrected by good men with rifles."

I like them too, but you can get 2 of these superb Girsan 92's for the price of 1 Beretta

PS, Don't let the clone factor put you off, Beretta's are copies too.
