40 cal round
What bullet would/do you carry with a 40 cal to protect against bear, lions, 2 legged varmints? I've read several places that you want something that shoots fast to penetrate thick bear fur/skin. Thanks!

Heavy for caliber bullet, 180 gr in .40(?), JSP/FMJ/hard cast lead for bear. What you read is not common wisdom for bear.
Cougar/people are thin skinned/light boned- relatively easy to "stop". A standard JHP would likely be OK in .40- I am not intimately familiar with the caliber.

I would say it will depend on which 40 platform you have? If it is a 9mm platform I will not recommend it on anything bigger then 2 leg animals. If you have a custom 40 where you can run 32mm TOL then you can have weight and speed for something heavier.
