The Star Wars franchise has been managed about as well Mike Tyson’s boxing career.

The first trilogy was the success of the 80s.

The prequels brought on some loses and the rape of Jar Jar.

There were high hopes for the post prison comeback of the sequel trilogy, but after biting someone’s ear off in the last movie,
    The title should be -
Star Wars IX- A Lost Hope.

Kill off the old characters in the stupidest ways imaginable so we are left with Mary Sue Rey and a plethora of uninteresting "diverse" side characters. Disney star wars can go **** itself with a giant lightsaber.

Except the last movie had none of that.

I saw the trailer the other day.
I feel like I should be excited.
    I just can't.

I just like that there has been no character development.

Rey is still Rey. the exact same Rey. The exact, boring Rey.

Luke went from naive farmboy to rebel soldier to a Jedi in a prrogression of loss and trial. Rey is still "scrawny white girl".

Rey could have EASILY become the red herring. An evil turn. A bit of sexiness with her evil. Finn becomes a hardened rebel guerilla. Kylo realizes killing his father was wrong and seeks to redeem himself. Luke could have become a more cynical yet likewise hopeful mentor.

Nope....same stupid crap. They could have taken some risks but really I just dont care what happens.

They could bring back Jar Jar as the Sith Lord behind it all and while interesting...wouldnt be enough.

    Yeah....pass

The real sequel movies have yet to be made. These Disney versions are an alternative universe, a possible-world lost in a wormhole that was never actualized. But Mickey thought it would be cute.

That’s how I keep the hope alive.

    Looks damn good to me.

Not to mention the creepy old lady in the goggles thing whatever that was. There are no developed stories, there are no developed characters, it's all just a bunch of crap on the screen to look at.

Even with the original films Lucas heavily mined Jidai Geki films for actual stories, plot lines and characters. Starting with the first film of the remakes, The Force Awakens it was all shit and the only good thing about any of it was once again hearing the roar of a Tie Fighter. Other than that it was nothing and the CGI masking of Peter Cushing and Carrie Fisher was actually offensive.

So really they can do whatever they want with the franchise, honestly it started to suck with Return of the Jedi when Skywalker and company were captured by f-ing teddy bears. Ewoks and muppets were the beginning of the end.

I have my unmolested copy of Star Wars (1977) on DVD and it's really the only film I'll still watch on occasion. I have the box set with all three films, but rarely will I even try and watch the other two. I have The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi on DVD someplace but I've watched them once and will probably never watch them again. I honestly can't even remember what happens and when because they are so damn boring. I remember a black guy was a stormtrooper who decided to "fight the power" and that's about it.

Someone should inform Disney that signal virtuing does not constitute a story, but the entire concept would probably be lost on them. Trying to remember the last Disney film that wasn't completely unwatchable, probably Toy Story.
