My son and I are looking forward to it but we're Star Wars geeks like that.

My thought from day one was that Rey is a Skywalker. I guess I'll get to find out if I was right or not this coming Christmas. My son is a wanna be Sith Lord so his eyes lit up and he cackled with joy when he heard the Emperor's cackle. I try to keep that youthful enthusiasm and he helps me do it.

We named our new Pomeranian, Rey and she is just as annoying.

Even with the original films Lucas heavily mined Jidai Geki films for actual stories, plot lines and characters. Starting with the first film of the remakes, The Force Awakens it was all shit and the only good thing about any of it was once again hearing the roar of a Tie Fighter. Other than that it was nothing and the CGI masking of Peter Cushing and Carrie Fisher was actually offensive.

So really they can do whatever they want with the franchise, honestly it started to suck with Return of the Jedi when Skywalker and company were captured by f-ing teddy bears. Ewoks and muppets were the beginning of the end.

I have my unmolested copy of Star Wars (1977) on DVD and it's really the only film I'll still watch on occasion. I have the box set with all three films, but rarely will I even try and watch the other two. I have The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi on DVD someplace but I've watched them once and will probably never watch them again. I honestly can't even remember what happens and when because they are so damn boring. I remember a black guy was a stormtrooper who decided to "fight the power" and that's about it.

Someone should inform Disney that signal virtuing does not constitute a story, but the entire concept would probably be lost on them. Trying to remember the last Disney film that wasn't completely unwatchable, probably Toy Story.

“ReturnOJ” was the canary that all was not well. It has been downhill, except for R1. That trailer didn’t get me at all.

I still rewatch ANH. Great film.

Hopefully one of the time jumpers from 2037 tying to prevent a Scientology led oppressive, brutal government and alien invasion by possession will jack up the timeline enough to Mandela effect these sequels to Jiffy Peanut Butter, Dolly’s braces, Sinbad genie movie, and Risky Business glasses non existence.

My daughter loves the new films and is stoked to see the Rise of Skywalker, so I will see it with her. While I enjoyed Rouge One immensely and this Star Wars Rebels was a fantastic series, I feel that Disney did a horrible job with TFA and TLJ. As far as I’m concerned the Star War story was a wrap with the post battle party on Endor.

If that were going to happen, it would have already happened.

Only from your irrelevant existence in an irrelevant timeline that has not been snuffed out yet.

    There are two possibilities:

Either everything has already happened and time is just the thing that keeps it all from happening at once; or,
There are infinite co-existing parallel universes where everything is occurring - and the time travelers from our timeline go "back" to the past in a parallel universe (or they might just be moving sideways) and may either return to our universe, but nothing's changed or they go to the future of the universe they just traveled to the past in or they go to the future (moving sideways again) in a third parallel universe unrelated to our parallel universe or the parallel universe they traveled back in time in.

Other possibilities exist, such as time travel never being possible, time travel only being possible within time after the time machine has been invented, or only time travel forward being possible, time travel back being impossible. Or humanity (or any species evolved from humanity) never achieving time travel before extinction.

If time travel such that the sequel trilogies and/or prequel trilogies never occurred or were better than they are, it would have already happened. And if there are infinite parallel universes, it already will have happened in one of them - but we aren't living in them, so we don't get to experience it (or our consciousness is divided across the many parallel universes and we do get to experience it, but the consciousnesses in this universe don't - which is the consciousness that our consciousnesses present in this universe care about).

For all we know, the sequels might have been truly horrible and the time travelers simply managed to make them better rather than un-existing them.

    Speaking of which...

Time travel is now a thing in Star Wars, thanks to Rebels. It may, therefore, be possible for someone at some point in the future to reset the sequel trilogy. But time travel in Star Wars seems to be stable, meaning that it doesn't have any impact on the timeline because the past is the past and the time travel already occurred. But they got Jar-Jar "Milquetoast" Abrams to use time travel to f___ up Star Trek, maybe they'll get him to do it to Star Wars, too.
