    Technical thoughts

    It’s purpose would be to adjust the natural frequency of the barrel structure (it’s first harmonic) such that there was a deflection upward or downward (either works) at the barrel end at the time of bullet exit which gives you a longer dwell time as it moves up then reverses to down so that variations in time from detonation to bullet exit do not change the relative position of the barrel from shot to shot. That of course only works if all else is held constant.

    In theory you could also just lower the harmonic frequency so much that the barrel is not bending appreciably regardless of time.

    (I have no experience with any of that just a reader)
