    The Cathedral of Notre-Dame is burning.

    This is a tragedy of epic proportions.

    Looks to be caused by some of the repairs being done.

    That looks really not good.

    It's hard to be a ACLU hating, philosophically Libertarian, socially liberal, fiscally conservative, scientifically grounded, agnostic, porn admiring gun owner who believes in self determination.

    It's gone. Way past the point of no return now. This is so sad. I've seen it. It's a true piece of history. You don't get any more "historic" than this place.

    From another news article: “The fire comes after several weeks of vandalism and arson attacks on church buildings across France.”

    So it may be from reconstruction work or could be Islamic vandalism/terrorism. Fair warning to the US if we keep taking in unverified immigrants from Islamic countries and let Islam feel it is outside our laws here.

    I had the same thought. It would be more acceptable if it was a terrorist attack. That this was an accident associated with a renovation attempt is almost too much to accept. If this was something like some f-tard plugged in an extension cord wrong and started a fire it will really be hard to take.

    given when they are estimating the fire started and given this is France we are talking about wouldn't work have been stopped for the day.
