MP5's with steel lowers did exist:

Jim Schatz (RIP) has stated on HKPro in the past that all factory MO5s had trigger housings.

That’s not a factory MG. That’s a converted semiauto. It was very common to simply chop the barrel and mod the 0, 1 steel semiauto lower made for semiauto receivers with a shelf. The “tell” is the A in the third position. You can even see the third party markings on the housing, likely Jonathan Arthur Ceiner.

Pretty sure that was the production standard, but they could be ordered, which is why swing down steel MP5 trigger groups exist. I have one that I ordered from HK back in the 90s. So I have to assume since they made them, that it is possible that those ordering MP5s could order them that way.

There is not three lug on that barrel, and the trigger pack is clearly clipped. As has already been stated, that's an HK94 that has been converted to be MP5-ish.

Jim Shatz's comment is what I was referring to earlier. For those that don't know, he worked at HK for a very long time. I figured he would know.

Ah - good observations! I missed that - should have looked at the picture more clearly. I stand corrected.

Far be it from me to second guess Jim Shatz, but here is my factory German steel SEF swing down trigger group that was purchased from HK by an HK dealer friend of mine in the mid 1990s.

Again, my comment was based upon the fact that since HK actually made and sold steel SEF groups for the MP5 I'm just assuming an MP5 could be ordered that way. I have no idea if anyone actually did it.

I have had several premay MP5s and they were all plastic SEF trigger groups until I changed them out.

But that’s also a 33 lower. Did it come from HK with a 9mm ejector? How about the hammer spring and hammer? Is the hammer XX marked and the hammer spring strut pinned to the hammer? Is the hammer spring a 9mm or rifle spring?

Came from the factory as a 9mm everything. I wanna say I remember some SWAT guys who ordered some with steel lowers from the factory but it was a long time ago and just as easy they could have ordered the steel lowers and just swapped them out.

Back then HK offered 33 steel groups, MP5 steel groups and about a dozen other trigger group options and since it was all "push pin" it was like LEGOs if you had a factory gun.

I suspect those were simply 33 SEF steel lowers repurposed to 9mm.
