HK UMP Clone with Gemtech Suppressor

Here is my HK UMP Clone with Gemtech 45 acp Suppressor. It was built with all New HK Parts including a New HK 45 acp barrel. It is super accurate and the suppressor is very quiet.

I built this UMP Clone back in July 2007. I traded a NIB Bushmaster Pre-Ban Carbine with a 11.5" barrel and the long FH for a NIB HK USC Rifle. I think I had $350-$400.00 into the BM Carbine. I bought it as a dealer in the mid 80s so I paid dealer price. I had 3 of those Excellent Pre-Ban BM Carbines. I bought an real HK Factory Rebuilt UMP with a New Barrel for $700.00. The C3 dealer I bought the UMP from stripped off all of the parts from the receiver, cut it up and sent the proper paper work back to the ATF. I kept the New HK UMP Barrel and the one HK UMP magazine and sold the remaining parts to a member in AR15 for $700.00 plus shipping. So I got the barrel and magazine for free. Looking at my saved documentation the KAC Grip, HK UMP Butt Stock, and the HK UMP FBI Trigger Group, and a quick release barrel pin cost me a total of $400.00. I cannot remember and I do not have that documentation on what I paid Ed Montana of HDPS for the build.

A C3 dealer in TX got stuck with 5 Gemtech UMP Suppressors when a PD ordered 5 suppressed HK UMPs. He bought the 5 Suppressors and ordered 5 HK UMPs but after a year HK failed to deliver any UMPs and the PD canceled the order and bought 5 suppressed Colt M4s. The dealer sold me the Gemtech for $725.00 shipped to my C3 dealer. He told me that was his dealer price on the UMP Suppressor. I don't know if he was telling me the truth but I do know that $725.00 was way below retail.

Yeah, I have one done too.

Basically bought a USC, then bought a UMP for donor parts, then had Tactical Excellence do the conversion (which was almost the cost of another rifle) and was able to have one firearm for the price of three.

The things we HK enthusiasts do to have something close to a correct HK firearm because lord knows HK will never be able to import one like this. Fortunately I was able to sell the extra USC and UMP parts which pretty much offset the cost of the actual build (eventually).

I remember the UMP suppressor was expensive and that sounds about right for my dealer price back then, but damn sure glad I grabbed one because you can't really find them now.

The UMP was a pipe dream since I first read about it in Soldier of Fortune in the 90s, never ever thought I'd have a setup like this one. And the opportunity to try and do it now is pretty much gone, especially if you want things like a factory HK barrel.

Most people are rolling Top Notch parts or HDPS parts.

I too have an all German UMP with both .40S&W and .45ACP bolts and barrels. They are more expensive than they used to be but you can still find deals occasionally on Gun Broker and the forums. I picked up my German .45ACP Barrel for $250 a few months ago and last year lucked into a German .40S&W barrel, Tom Bostic converted bolt, and 4 mags for $450 on Gun Broker. But gone are the days of getting good deals from retailers. HKParts is selling pulled German .45ACP Barrels for something crazy like $800.

I really enjoy shooting mine, it’s very ergonomic and feels much higher quality than my old CZ scorpion. I prefer mine in .40S&W.

How do you guys like the Gemtech suppressor? I’m waiting on my stamp for one.

I like it, but it's not like there are lots of options. I think the only other UMP suppressor is made by B&T and is technically a "premay" dealer sample.

The gemtech performs well but mounting isn't as quick and easy as say a MP5. But that is going to be true of any suppressor designed to mount on a UMP.

B&T USA makes a transferable UMP suppressor now. I was planning on going with that but got a great deal on the Gemtech.

Sweet, I wish HK could figure out how to make / sell stuff like that here to the US these days, but there probably isn't a viable business case for it.
