Agree with you, UMP is probably the lowest priority for H&K. I love mine but still prefer my MP5.

Would love to see them update the MR556/762, introduce a full size SP5K, and sell a Semi G36. They would all sell like hot cakes under $3,000. Probably a pipe dream.

I read mixed reviews about the flange mounting system. On my Tom Bostic conversion, I went with a 16x1 LH threaded barrel (I used a USC 16” barrel and had it cut down to 8”). Only issue is the flash hider comes loose on firing. I am waiting on a Ti-rant 45M in NFA jail. That may have been dumb as well, because guys on HK Pro are seeing large POI shifts with that combo. Anyhow, I love my UMP conversion. It is by far my favorite PCC.

I went with a direct thread option on my UMP as well. The Octane 45 HD is an excellent option for these as well.

The flange is just clumsy and I worry how it will wear over time.

I get that HK lives to be innovative and are more interested in previously unimagined designs than being practical, but sometimes they need to realize things like 3 lug mounts are it and stop trying to reinvent the wheel.

The MP5 suppressor mounting system is the best one I've ever used on anything. Thread mounts walk, it's been true since the Ingram M-10. The Uzi had a nice locking mount but it wasn't exactly the fastest thing you've ever seen.

I'm jealous of these UMP's, but unless people start selling them fully assembled with all the conversions done and such, I'll probably never have one.

Those days are gone. The USC is no longer in production or imported and finding UMP parts, especially factory barrels that can no longer be imported, is even more difficult than when we did these builds a decade and a half ago.

Trying to do a UMP build today would probably cost twice as much and we probably paid the price of three firearms to accomplish one. There is an Omega clone but I'm pretty sure that's a Todd / Wendy / Wade Bailey cutout company operation.

Exactly my point. May take a look at the new offering from LWRC if it gets decent reviews.

Of course, then I'll just need a pile of UMP mags...

USCs just went back into production: https://hk-usa.com/hk-models/usc/

I bought two last summer, and at the NRA show, the reps said they’re still being imported. As you point out though, parts will eventually dry up (especially UMP demilled kits). The UMP will probably go away before the MP5 will ironically.

If you call HK USA, they will order them direct from Germany for you. I bought ten UMP 9 magazines that way. It took 3-4 months, but they still did it.

The Bailey's released their own receiver (The Gideon Shadow) and that has sent UMP kits and parts skyrocketing in price.
