Wasn't sure if you'd put Case Closed, and that just hit my inbox. Glad it worked out for you, and hope it's working well for your friend.

Well, of course, new replies are always welcome, but people didn't seem to be chiming in with much new information and I think the Shield is unbeatable for price and what you get.

Is it the only one that fits the criteria? No. I think it may be the "best" choice though, unless someone wants to suggest something else.

I like the Ruger LCP, too, but a lot of people don't care for some of its features. Last time I checked they were a little over two-and-a-quarter at the LGS. Still, some people want more than .380 ACP, so we're back to the Shield.

So, I think the "winner" is the Shield, but of course there are always good "also rans".

You picked right on the Shield.

The mags will loosen, but just slightly. But honestly the P365 and PPS mags are about the same and honestly any small pistol that's reliable is going to be stout. I bought my wife a Shield from PSA or Brownells a summer or two ago when the rebate was going on. I think they were running a special with free shipping at the time too. With FFL transfer I was still around $230 after rebate. The icing on the cake is that the new one had a much better trigger than mine did. I got one of the first no safety models out, so it's a bit older. I had mine worked over to a 4.25lb break and nicer reset by a now retired 'smith and the new one was almost it's equal. We have about 8 mags between us. There's absolutely ZERO reason for us to look at switching platforms, but if doing it over I'd give the PPS a hard look. The PPS would be my ONLY other suggestion due to price point set.

Yes I carry the Shield in 45acp with the manual safety AIWB and its great.I mentioned earlier that I also had a Canik SF elite and as with all guns that I plan on possibly carrrying I put 500 rounds through them. The Shield and Canik passed the test.Although I sold the Canik to finance a FAL.
