That's a Belt Mountain base pin- think oversize slide stop on a 1911.
It does take a lot of slop/movement out of the cylinder. The greatest benefit is that it stays in place under significant recoil.
I have them in my hard recoiling Bisley Rugers.

I really like the Base Mountain Pins. Have 2 guns with them. It does improve the slop and movement.

Mine is the short barrel Bisley version. The grip fits my large hands better; love it.

Mine is a Ruger New Vaquero (fixed sights) 4-3/4” bbl blued steel and I added Ruger wood grips, a very nice little revolver.

I’ve got several Ruger .44 Specials. New Models and unconverted Old Models. The OM’s were .357 small frame size before they were converted. Very nice for carrying in the woods.

Well, I didn't stick my "short list" very well. I ran into a very nice condition OM .357 and it found its way into my safe. Turns out, I absolutely love it. The .44 Specials going to have to wait a while now.
