Movie Endings That Really Pissed You Off (SPOILERS)!

I despise Spielberg's kvetching fantasy that is Saving Private Ryan

Thin Red Line was superior.

But I sorta wish the ending was like Starship Troopers 2. That movie sucked but had potential because it was meant to be like the Korean War to ST1s WW2.

Captain Miller should have grabbed matt damon and shouted "SHED NO TEARS FOR ME! MY GLORY LIVES FOREVER!"

And then hardcore Right Wing music blares at the grave and matt damon says "you're goddamned right"

The entire movie was the landing, and maybe taking the MG42, just as in The Thin Red Line the entire movie was the Japanese materializing from the jungle.

Stephen was dying to make a WW2 epic and the portrayal of the Omaha beach landing would make a great opening to a epic WW2 movie. The P-51's coming in at the last second to save the day were the real hero's. Those are tank killers sir! I swear, Matt Damon is stranded, left for dead or has to be rescued in just about every one of his movies.

The only WWII film I acknowledge aside from Thin Red Line is Kellys Heroes

Saving Private Ryan. Absolutely SUCKED.

As Cpt. Miller is dying, he tells Ryan there on the bridge, "EARN this." "EARN THIS?!?!" Are you shiite'in me?!?!

So for the next SIXTY years, he AGONIZES over this redemption, for which he can NEVER repay - the reality of it gnawing at him day & night. So FINALLY, as an old man, he goes back to Normandy. And he stands before the silent cross marker of Cpt. Miller, from whence no absolution can come! So in desperation, he turns to his wife - "Have I been a 'good' man?!" And she LIES!!! "Yes - you've been a 'good' man," but his conscience knows BETTER! He's NEVER lived up to, "EARN this," and it's crushing his soul... and there the movie leaves us...

Script writers make lousy theologians, and clearly Cpt. Miller wasn't Lutheran, but all ya' hafta do, is change a few letters, and the movie has the best ending ever. INSTEAD of, "EARN this" , all Cpt. Miller has to say is, "ENJOY this."

ENJOY THIS! Your life has been purchased at a price you did not pay, and CANNOT re-pay; therefore, REJOICE... and ENJOY this.

So he comes back to Normandy with a clear conscience, IF also a heavy heart, being back there. He salutes Cpt. Miller's headstone. Maybe he cries a bit too. He hugs his wife - thanks her for standing with him through the good and bad all those years - and they walk down the beach, hand in hand, as the credits roll.

Yeah, I'm a confessional Lutheran, and I DETEST works righteousness in all its forms & flavors. So the last 5 minutes, killed the whole movie for me...

I’m going to have to watch it again because I swear what he said was “You...earnED this”. Because he does say “you” followed by a pause. It’s a key line I think gets messed up a lot because of how it’s said on film, just like Brad Pitts words to Norman in Fury are constantly misquoted unless you see the actual lines or listen super close.

Check out The Great Raid sometime--pretty good retelling of the liberation of Cabanatuan POW camp. Only beef is they had to use an A-29 Hudson as the "air support" in the movie because there are only a handful of the P-61 Black Widows that were actually used left in existence, none of them flyable. Still coulda swapped the planes with CGI...
