Anyone see the new Hungarian FEG SVD yet?

Of course they're not actually out yet, but apparently they are going to be. There is a long thread about it over on BARFCOM and the AKForum is where they are trying to gin up interest. Speculation is as high as $4K for one (I'll pass at that price).

Wow. If it’s legit, I would totally buy it. I came really close to buying a PSL during the Bush years (like I had cash in hand at the gun counter) and bought something else instead. This would make up for it.

I wonder if you could suppress it?

Count me in. I've been looking for a NDM-86 or a Russian TIGR but I'm unwilling to drop +$5000.

Gee 4K, would be nice don’t get me wrong but I am happy with my Vepr 54R. Also heard that possible WBP out of Poland would want to do SVD as well depending on how things go for them but that is a rumorville for now. Curious could someone fill me in on why SVDs never imported in large numbers back in the day?

Most likely it was ammo. 7.62x54R was rare up until the middle '90's. In the early '90's I had to pay over $30 for a box of Norma 7.62x54R just to shoot the Russian M44 that my father brought back from Vietnam.

Honestly for a commie pattern sniper rifle that can't outshoot an AR-10 platform and even with the correct ammo (which is very hard to source) has difficulty out performing HK91s and FALs I don't see me dropping $2k let alone twice that much. The options for optics are also pretty crappy, it's weird moving the reticle around inside the field of view rather than centering the reticle on the POI.

For the collector, I can understand those who pay big bucks for preban Tigers and such, but that's it for me. If it costs FEG more than $1,000 US to produce these rifles then they are doing something wrong.

If the price point doesn't go too high ($2-2.5k) I could see these selling well. No one buys an SVD for sub MOA anything, but collectors will go crazy over them. Hell, I'd probably pick one up. They're iconic and currently unobtanium for the most part.

Prices being discussed are about $4k.

Ammo wasn't the problem it was available back then too.. The rifle was banned....well kind of. It was a US/Russia treaty. Russia stops importing certain rifles and in return they got something like favorite status.
