I think he is referring to the various kits that you can buy from PSA and other places. I have over 1K in each one of my pistols, but I got the parts I wanted, not generic parts pulled from a bin.

Yeah, I don't imagine you were getting much for $299.

I'll leave the door open for what I thought would be a hand-selected parts build, and not a kit and lower deal. I have no problem with folks on a budget who are looking into getting an inexpensive AR. That's not my aim here. I'm just interesting in seeing if someone can spec out parts for that kind of money.

I am not sure you could unless maybe you got everything on a Black Friday sales with free shipping. I do alot of shopping around. I think I could build one for under $400, but it would still probably have to include parts I have on hand that are spares left over from other projects, which would defeat the purpose. You might be able to do it by sourcing generic parts, but then shipping costs quickly add up. I have found lowers for as low as $35, but add shipping and transfer costs and it's cheaper to pay MSRP at the LGS. I honestly don't think you can build a pistol from hand selected parts for $400 or less.

This recent 2-part article, with input from Jeff Creamer the president of SB Tactical, gives a good practical overview to 'staying legal' with a build:

    https://www.usconcealedcarry.com/blo...-legal-limits/
    https://www.usconcealedcarry.com/blo...limits-part-2/

And I thought it was interesting that in SB's videos on their site, they don't seem to demonstrate a shouldered approach to using their braces--so they're kind of avoiding the critical issue of whether you can shoulder.

So no more AFG's on pistols either... anybody wanna place bets on what ATF flip-flops like a landed trout on next and when? Good thing the pistol upper I built is only on an unmachined blank...

Something's gotta be done to ensure fixed stable rules of the game, rather than eternal Calvinball every time somebody at F Troop gets a funny twitch of an ass-hair or a stiffy. Maybe subject their Determinations to the same Rulemaking process as other Admin Law...

See the links in maximus83's post above mine, IIRC it was the first one.

Interesting. Last official ruling I read from the ATF defined vertical foregrips as those have a grip angle of 90 degrees. AFGs were good because they were less than 90 degrees.

Does anyone have a link to the actual ruling that says AFGs are no longer acceptable?
