Norma 69 and 77, what's up with the cloth tie?

I bought some factory 69's and 77's from Norma when they were on sale. Just to try for shit and giggles. I have seen these cheese cloth tie's on some Surplus 308, was South African if I can remember. Any idea the purpose or tradition for this? I bought 308 from them and I dont remember seeing it.

It's probably there to help remove the first box of ammo so you can easily get the ammo boxes from the shipping box without having to dump it all out on the floor.

I bought a case of 55 grain 223 from them a few months back and had the same thing. Not sure the purpose.

The cloth tie is the box that's blessed by the mormon bishop.

Ugh, I'll skip that one. Probably for offing members of your own party if you get cold & hungry enough!

Maybe it is to grab first box however one box was very loosely fitted. Does make sense though.

After some more inter web research, consensus is "to make pulling the first box easy".

The 1980s Radway Green 7.62 NATO came that way...

Four trays of 50 rounds fit perfectly tightly in a standard ammo can, and it would've been a major PITA to get the first one out without the loop.

Now, if only I could find decent 7.62 for 16¢/round...

Yep makes removing the first box easier, not such a big deal in a loosely fitted cardboard box but really handy in a tightly fitted ammo can.
