    looking to get into reloading?

Is this THIS a good kit to get for someone looking to get into reloading? We will be starting off with 223 Rem. for our bolt guns, 5.56 for our AR's and 308 Win. Once we get the hang of it we'll probably expand what we reload, other rifles and pistols.

I realize you guys that have been doing it for a long time can probably point out better or different components that work good for you. I'd like to start out buying a kit with most of what we need to get started. We can always change things as we go.

    Thanks, NYH1.

    Yep, that's a good starter's kit.

I'm a big fan of the LNL conversion kit from hornady for my single stage. You can swap dies in seconds and keep your settings. A priceless and low cost upgrade for a single stage.

Yes, it's a good start. Things I see you needing:

    1. Dillon primer pocket swager if you plan on using military cases.
    2. A stand for the powder dumper.
    3. RCBS bench priming tool, to replace the hand priming tool.
    4. Ditch the pad and sticky lube and get spray cans of One Shot.
    5. MTM loading trays
    6. Powder trickler, if you want high-precision target loads.

I think the Rock Chucker press is made in China now. Check and make sure. The Redding Big Boss is what I use and it's Made In USA.

If you need a stand for a powder measure let me know. I've got one I'm not using in a box somewhere. It's an RCBS, not that it really matters, but it'll match the rest of your stuff.

Thanks man. We have to have the floor poured and install the doors in our pole barn. Then we'll start buying what we need. I'll keep you in mind!

    Dissenting opinion:

Just get a Dillon RL550C. You WILL want a progressive sooner or later.

My tongue is blue from drinking Dillon's Kool-Aid, but I wouldn't consider any other brand.

Fully agree on 550 as first press.. have 2, a 650 and a 1050. One of the 550s is used for reloading classes I teach. Other one was my first press 30+ years ago.

I agree that you shouldn't use a pad to lube cases...

I've never used OneShot, because MarkM's rants about it were enough to convince me that it sucks.

I use Dillon's lube (more Kool-Aid, please), which is just lanolin and rubbing alcohol.

I ever get stingy enough (or when I run through the two bottles of Dillon lube I have), then I'm going to make my own out.
